All,

Since this is my first posting of the New Year, I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and best of luck meeting your RIM goals!

Now that I have been in my RIM position for about 6 months, I have a better handle on steps that need to be taken to introduce/establish an RIM program at my university (and it ain't gonna be easy!). I got the okay from by supervisor to take a step back and view the forest for the trees as they say, and although I am nervous about doing so, I feel more confident in my ability to put a project plan together that will phase in an RIM program-first physical/paper records management, then electronic records management which I know will be a project in itself.

I'd like to make the plan as comprehensive as possible with the understanding that it will not be a static document but will be constantly evaluated and updated as the project progresses. I have located some sample plans ranging from the extremely detailed/comprehensive to pretty much only a basic outline. And even though I know there is not just one answer, I'd really appreciate some feedback on:

1. Considering that I'm still a newbie but have written a couple of proposals and basic/mid-level project plans, what is a reasonable estimate of the amount of time that it should take me to put together a comprehensive project plan? I'm thinking a couple of weeks.

2. How should I be defining "comprehensive?"

3. When is enough enough?

4. Any other advice?

Thanks very much!
Phil
