forwarded with permission. RMs may be interested in the following
questionnaire. The focus is on companies with dedicated archives staff, but
I suspect that there are many RMs who are responsible for archives material

Subject: [archives] FINAL NOTICE: Corporate Archives Benchmark Questionnaire
- Deadline January 31, 2009
To: "Archives & Archivists (A&A) List" <[log in to unmask]>

Dear A&A list,

Below is a final reminder to all corporate archivists. If you or someone
from your company has not yet completed the survey below, please do so
before the end of January. The more respondents there are, the more helpful
the resulting data will be.

And to those who have already completed the questionnaire, thank you very
much for your participation.

Regards,
 *Becky*

*CORPORATE ARCHIVES BENCHMARK QUESTIONNAIRE*

*SPONSORED BY *

*Society of American Archivists Business Archives Section**
AND
International Council on Archives Section on Business & Labour Archives***

*Why A Global Survey?*
The need to identify best practices among corporate archives was raised at a
joint meeting of the leadership of the SAA Business Archives Section and the
ICA Section on Business and Labour Archives, held during SAA's 2005 Annual
Meeting. The group determined that a global survey was the most effective
way to gather this information. A volunteer team was assembled which then
developed and vetted a series of questions about programs and practices.

*Contribute Your Knowledge*
The more archives that complete the survey, the more useful the data will be
for all. The results will provide you and your corporate archivist peers
with substantive information about the nature and scope of corporate
archival programs around the world.

*How To Participate*
We ask that ONE PERSON from each corporate archive complete the survey. If
your company has separate operating units with different corporate names and
separate archives programs, then one person from each operating
unit/archives should complete the survey. The survey is only available in
English; however, we hope this will not prevent non-English speaking
archivists from participating. Please email Tony Jahn at
[log in to unmask] should the language present problems.

*Results*
The survey will be anonymous; we will not be able to identify or track the
email addresses of those individuals who complete the survey. Therefore, the
results cannot be sent directly to those who fill out the survey.

The results will be compiled with a survey tool and then posted and
communicated as broadly as possible using various country-level business
archives organizations and related web sites, including the SAA and ICA/SBL.

*Help Us To Compile The Results*
Once all of the survey data has been submitted, we will need volunteers from
each region to compile, sort and organize the responses so the information
can be shared in a usable format. Please email Tony Jahn at
[log in to unmask] if you wish to volunteer.

Thank you for your participation in this important endeavor.

Tony Jahn - Chair, Business Archives Section, SAA
