>I work for a Government Contractor and we are just getting started with
developing a formalized records retention policy and program. Does this
software breakdown retention periods for specific industries, like
Government Contractors?
>

Simple answer- NO.

Main reason? "Government Contractor" is FAR FROM an industry.

If you contract to perform work with one or multiple Federal Agencies, you
will need to review the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulations) and the
specific requirements included in each of your contracts to determine what
your obligations are... and plan on them potentially being LONG TERM,
depending on the products or services you provide.

It is possible that many/most of the records you generate will meet the
definition of "Federal Records", but your contract should clearly identify
which records are "Contractor Records" under your agreement.

For the non-Federal records, it's up to CTC.COM to determine what
regulations impact those, and combined with any business needs you have for
them, to set retention periods. For the Federal Records, you must meet the
requirements of the NARA GRS or the Administrative Schedule(s) of the
Agencies you do work for.
