Hugh's advice on becoming your own expert is advice worth taking. As owner
of the project, you must make sure you get exactly what you want. The
contractor and architect do not share your motives. The contractor wants
to build it as quickly and cheaply as possible to maximize revenue and
incentives (if there are any) and will cut corners if possible. The
architect looks at the design and not necessarily the functions taking
place within and around the structure. As owner, you must come equipped
with knowledge and experts to every meeting where decisions are being made
about your future archival repository and make sure your voice is not only
heard, but obeyed.
