Here's one reason: I reuse a lot of the documents I produce, from RFP
responses to resumes to slide decks. In many cases there is sensitive client
information in the document. I delete the sensitive information, but it's
still there in the metadata. If I send an RFP response to you that had
pricing from a previous client, it would be bad for me. If you sent me a
note about my unsuccessful RFP response that you had reused from the
successful response, it would be bad for you. No chicanery here, either -
just usual sensitivity to confidential information. And I'm sure most of you
can think of dozens of similar examples. I also don't think it's realistic
to expect that every document created will be created from a blank Office
(or its counterpart) document every time - and even cut/paste can bring some
of the legacy stuff over.
