Alan was one of the true pioneers in the file of RIM. A personal friend and  
colleague over the years, he was a warm and thoughtful individual who did  
much to advance our profession. I first met Alan as rookies at the National  
Records Management Council in New York back in 1951. A great person and a major  
loss.
