With the burner set to simmer, I think the description below provided by
Fred is how MOST (and I have to say most, because it's not universally
accepted) records managers describe/define the differences between records
and archival materials.

I must admit Fred, it took awhile fro the mistiness to disappear from my
eyes when I read this...  =)

The REAL DIFFERENCE is when you hear how IT/IS staff that may work in
support of records managers (or records management applications)
describe/define "archives" or worse yet, the practice/principles of
'archiving' data and information.  

Keep in mind that while some individuals may enjoy referring to themselves
as records managers, and some of them may even have those special three
little initials after their names, they are not Records Managers by practice
or experience, they have simply worked in and around the profession.  

They do NOT know the secret handshake.... and these are the variety of
"records managers" that frequently misidentify and misuse the terms archives
and archiving.
