I recall seeing a technology at one ARMA conference, Rosetta something,
for archiving it was a very good technology and did not rely on a
program to view the archive (I think it did use an electron microscope
though).  The media had an extremely long life expectancy.   Now back to
the world where most of us are. (if anyone out there recalls seeing this
technology and can add more detail such as are they still in business
would be appreciated.)

A system such as EMC's or Filenets are able to be used for archive, a
lot of it depends on the media your using, long term financial support
so that it can be upgraded and migrated on a periodic basis as
technology changes.

These systems can index, classify etc which are necessary components.
