Jesse, I think one of the most pressing email management issues is
understanding what the most pressing email management issue is. As with
many records management dilemmas, this is one where one size definitely
does not fit all. A good section on gathering metrics would be
worthwhile: metrics on technology costs; metrics on user behavior; and,
the one I have not found a good model for: metrics on risk. Given the
wide range of cost/benefits seen in many existing email solutions,
gathering these kinds of metrics would seem critical to understanding
which particular combination of policy/training/technology best meets a
particular organization's needs.
