Just a small note on these stats... and they are impressive... The numbers represent email addresses rather than individuals. Some of us have a couple of email addresses registered so that we can communicate from either work or home, depending upon circumstances. So that count may not quite represent the total number of individuals who are part of the list.
I happened upon some really old stuff at home the other day and reminded myself that I've been participating in the Listserve since 1993. It was really hard to chisel out those messages on stone tablets and get them on the wire back then, but somehow we managed.
