Greetings, ListServ Members.  I am Kathy Smith, National Records Information Manager for a large law firm in Chicago, IL.  I have searched the archives on this issue; however, found nothing specific that would answer my question and therefore would appreciate your input on the following:
Does your firm attempt to recover out-of-pocket costs associated with the release of client files or the court ordered destruction of the same as part of a protective order?  Given the increase in the demand to release electronic media, our IT department has had to purchase additional  hardware and invest a significant amount of labor in the exporting of this data onto external storage devices.  We are also experiencing an increase in requests to destroy confidential and highly confidential client documents (both paper and electronic).  Is anyone charging-back for these types of costs or had any recent discussions on similar topics?
Please respond back off-list. Many thanks in advance for your help,  Kathy.
