It's a shame that some of the messes that we in this realm have
encountered have been cleaned up. I recall a South Texas County that
had a ratty old, abandoned school as its "archive" (their use of the
term). It had the benefit of rodent and insect infestation, and was
used frequently by the homeless - and yes, on cold nights some of those
staying in the school house would find some criminal case court records
and start a fire on the floor of the school to keep warm. In another
instance, a "Southeast Texas" courthouse stored all of the records that
they wished to keep out of the offices in an attic. It baked quite well
during summer months, and was subject to frequent water leaks, insects
and rodents..... While conducting the inventory (I merely assisted
others)..... we could hear the rats scurrying to ensure that they kept
one step ahead of us.
