Good point.  Unfortunately it's our regulators who established the
retention.  Wouldn't it be better to just say follow the NARUC (including
updates).

In our case, it's a matter of politics. To update the retention involves
filings with the regulators and all the messiness that accompanies it,
including what ends up being an invitation to micro-manage our program. In
the end, the cost of retaining certain items a little longer is far less
than the political costs, especially when weighed against more pressing
issues we want to take before our regulators.
