The President's FY 2010 Budget for the Networking and Information
Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program was publicly
released yesterday and is now web accessible in pre-print form from the
Executive Office of the President's National Coordination Office at:

http://www.nitrd.gov/Pubs/2010supplement/FY10Supp-Final-Preprint-Web.pdf

This document lays out the President's priorities for the coming fiscal
year in the areas of networking and information technology research and
development. See especially the Human Computer Interaction-Information
Management ("HCI&IM") Program area (pages 10-11).

Once again, issues related to the preservation of electronic records
are listed as priorities in the President's Budget. The National
Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is listed as one of the lead
agencies for activities in this area.

Archivists and records managers everywhere can point out to their
resource allocators and managers that the need for management of
electronic records is a recognized research and development priority at
the highest levels of the Federal Government. They can also point to
the recognized need for archivists and records managers to be actively
involved in that research and development.
