<Better that the same group that developed the UCC (Uniform Code of
Commerce) and the Uniform Rules of Evidence develop some type of uniform
code with regards to health records>
It would have to take into account each State's Tort laws and
malpractice limitation of actions. States differ on time periods for
these laws, and thus, we have so much discrepancy with health record
retention. Add to the mix the ongoing research into various long-term
illnesses such as black lung, tuberculosis, diabetes, etc. that seems to
find a need for life-time (and sometimes post life-time) medical records
for test subjects as well as those diagnosed with the disease, and the
new diseases that seem to float to the top of the research pile with
more frequency.
