Good morning to All,

Some of you know me, most of you do not. I have been around this industry
for, oh, let's just say a long time. Not as long as some, like my good pal
out there in the Oakland area, but for close to 30 years.

I have not made any "new" comments to this ListServ for nearly four years
now. For more than 3 1/2 of those years, I was on the ARMA HQ staff and was
not allowed to make any comments for fear that I would say something that
might tarnish the ARMA name. As some of you know, my employment with ARMA
was severed on February 13, 2009; therefore, I am somewhat free to once
again offer comment.

This topic, and I agree fully with Hugh Smith's sentiment that this is
somewhat of a new phenomenon, should be of great interest to anyone, or any
company that stores its records in any commercial off-site storage facility.
Holding records hostage is one thing, but this practice of "re-boxing",
"re-packaging" should sound off alarms as if Handel himself had risen from
the dead and added new lines to his very famous duet.

Diligence ----- due diligence is the fundamental element here. For all who
fall victim to this practice, beware. Don't sit by and allow this to happen.
If you ignore it, it will not get better. You're going to have to say "no";
and you're going to have to say it loud, and then stand your ground. If you
don't, you'll need to not only get accustomed to this type of charge, but
any others of which the dreamers can dream.
