Hi Peter - you're correct that this thread started on pll, but somehow found
its way here. Regardless, and to answer your question above, there is a RIM
related aspect to conflicts of interest in law firms.

If a firm has a retention policy, and destroys client files pursuant to that
policy, the firm should also make a decision as to whether or not it will
maintain metadata about that representation (client name, matter
description, dates of engagement, etc.) after the file is destroyed. There
are pros and cons to either a yes or no answer, and this is an area where I
think legal RIM has room to improve.

Many law firm RMs also have responsibility for conflicts of interest,
docketing, new business intake, and some also/alternatively have the
library, facilities, and other areas (just as non-legal RMs often wear many
hats). Those other areas may also well have RIM implications, or be
informed by "RIM thinking".

I am "all ate up" (a fun Southern saying) with legal-RIM, meaning this
industry both enthralls and confounds me, so these points of intersection
are of particular interest to me. I've been in the corporate world, been in
the gov't world, and am happy every day that I have chosen this particular
industry for my career. It's quirky, but it's fun!

Julie
