"I think I understand the intent you are expressing here, but what it sounds as if you're actually talking about developing would more accurately be referred to a "Policy and Procedures", not a 'standard'. And as many others in this thread have stated, much of what has been re-purposed and written into these 'principles' is extracted from existing Standards, Best Practices, and other published guidance that has existed for years."
Response: Perhaps.
In the few organizations that I have been a part of we have had Policy. We have had procedures. Its not about Leadership support. What I was trying to suggest is that perhaps the GAAP could be used as a bridge to something that would be meaningful and actually make some sense in the daily hassle faced by Joe or Jane Bag O'Donuts. After all they are the ones that are doing the work and supposedly helping the organization reach goals.
I am suggesting that to be effective, records and information management habits must be incorporated into the daily work habits of everyone in the organization. Developing processes and procedures at a strategic level will not have a lot of meaning or impact on the way business gets done if it isn't somehow relevant, make sense and be incorporated into what Joe and Jane do, day in and day out.
