My take ... (and no, Doug, not taking your bait ...) is that Twitter, like
many other innovative efforts, was born with a vision, but in time, reality
provided unintended and/or unexpected results. I don't think that's a bad
thing - I think it's merely a part of evolution.

Name a company who had such perfect insight that at the dawn of their
business was able to anticipate every positive and negative outcome with
perfection. Life often isn't what we planned, it's about what is, and how
you deal with what is.

One of the things I admire about Twitter, in particular, is that it was
created to be very open and very simple in order to allow the USERS to
dictate its value, meaning, context, and use patterns. True Web 2.0 theory
at play. Clearly they hit on something or else we wouldn't all be talking
about it. Sure, there are those in the world who will take advantage, and
those with a particularly litigious nature, however I am happy to see
Twitter responding to these results cautiously and isn't simply abandoning
its premise for the sake of correctness and catering to those looking to
make a quick buck. I would hate for Twitter to morph into something as
constraining and overly contrived as LinkedIn, for example.

Now, back to work ...

Julie
