Not intending for this to be a "me too" type of response on the value of the
tool, but...

I also went through the test- big deal, 13 questions in 5 (sort of) areas.
It's designed to test the "competency of your PROGRAM", not an individual's
knowledge or skills.

The questions have (in most cases) 5 multiple choice answers, but they don't
cover the potential spectrum of responses well. In half of the cases I had
to choose the "best of the worst" option, where my answer would have
accurately been a mix of two choices, or something that wasn't offered.

It's like I frequently say of surveys, depending on how they're designed,
the intent is to illicit a response that falls into the criteria of the
survey preparer, and for them to be able to prove a point they are
attempting to prove. In this case, at the end of the assessment, you are
given a link to a pre-written document from the sponsor that is designed to
provide guidance to anyone who participates, regardless of the results you
get. Secondarily, you are given a link to training provided by the host of
the assessment that is supposedly going to make you able to improve your
program.

Having spend countless hours and days working on the ARMA RIM Competencies
Project, I can guarantee you it is much more comprehensive and it's designed
to allow individuals to self-assess THEIR knowledge, skills and abilities on
a much broader range of subjects in a variety of functional areas in the RIM
Profession. It was developed by a wide range of SMEs with an aggregate of
over 200 years of on the ground experience in RIM This followed initial
meetings that drew together nearly 60 RIM practitioners and professionals
from throughout ARMA's membership to ascertain what the functional areas
were, and based on a wide range of industry segments, what skills were
required for proficiency.

Similar to what I stated in an earlier post about "tools", you need to
review what is available, determine how you can best use them to suit your
needs, and then take from them what they have to offer. If any of you are
on Facebook, as you well know, there are a myriad of quizzes you can take
and the results of most of them are... well... interesting (?) But if you
think back about them after you've taken one, it's how the questions are
structured and the limited range of choices you are given for answers that
frame the outcome. How is this relative? Suffice to say, I don't feel the
AIIM tool covers a broad enough range of subjects to be of great use to
individuals or programs.

And just so you know, I AM NO LONGER a member of ARMA, but I AM a member of
AIIM.
