My primary issue with it was the need for password. Someone wants to do a
background check? I either accept or I don't, depending on the nature of the
position, how important it is, etc. Someone wants to check my social
networks? Hey, they're all public:

LinkedIn: jessewilkins
YouTube: jessewilkins

I'd have to think about the various Ning networks, etc. but I'd at least try
to explain that all they have to do is look at my public profile. I
*wouldn't* agree to anything beyond that (though for me that's less of an
issue as I'm a pretty public person). 

A better approach in my mind, and one I know many of you already do: Google
"candidate name". If something odd comes up, and it's legal to ask about it
in the interview, do so. If it isn't, it doesn't matter; it could be that
that Jesse Wilkins isn't me and it should be pretty easy to prove that.
Those of you named Mark Smith or Susan Brown may have a tougher row to hoe. 

And I wonder who the first smartypants will be to register on, oh, 300 SM
sites, each of which has a slightly different username and password, and
then apply for a job up there. And here's a question from the previous
thread - Yahoo! Groups counts, right? It is Social Networking 1.0 if you
will...ditto chat forums...hey, I'd put my Usenet account and my original
ICQ account just to be a pain. :) Didn't check them all? Sue for lack of due
diligence. As the adage puts it, "Careful what you ask for...."
