I look forward to continuing the strong tradition of the Academy, which includes commitment to service and participation from our members. We must remain vocal, thoughtful and have leadership that persists in taking the high road with the message that being certified serves as a symbol of knowledge and demonstrates a level of expertise to those in and outside the archival profession. I look forward *[to] strengthening the work of the Academy."
The Academy of Certified Archivists is an independent, non-profit organization for certifying professional archivists. Established in 1989, more than 1000 archivists are now certified. Certification requires demonstrating a mastery of a defined body of knowledge and skills for successful archival practice, through a combination of graduate education, experience, and examination. Academy members are certified for a five-year period. Renewal depends on continuing professional involvement and growth. Within the archival profession, the "CA" designation is a mark of attainment, distinction, and commitment.
