"A few years ago, I pulled all my xrays (remember when I fell on my
head??), MRI's and so on just brought them home.
Remember when private Safe Deposit Box Companies abounded so people
could control their materials and keep them safe from the IRS. I see
people, pulling their medical files and moving them to their own
offsite storage where they can control their information. (New
Business idea....? )"
I work in a Health Care environment and the problem with what you're
saying above, is that most health care organizations will give you
COPIES of your medical records, but not the actual record, therefore the
information is still out there and not totally in your control. The
actual record is the property of the health care organization, where the
information inside is yours. You SHOULD have control on who sees your
information, but in most cases you do not own the actual record.
"But suing them on the HIPPA records is a good start. Now let's try to
find a lawyer who is not already disbarred. (No, I can't do it,
they're on to me. )"
The problem I see with the EHR/EMR is the bigger the system, the more
people who have access, the harder HIPAA rules will be able to be
enforced.......Just my 2 cents.
