I entirely agree about the general information overload and growing demand
for time. One of my teenage kids especially will be in his bedroom after
midnight communicating by laptop and cell phone with friends if you don't
just demand that they store those items outside of their bedroom in a public
place like the living room where you monitor use. A couple of months ago, my
Verizon bill jumped $100 in one month. Why? Because the kid sent over 1000
text messages in one month.
And, I am starting to receive requests on LinkedIn from people that I do not
know because I agreed to be a part of a group that they are a part of. Does
that really make us Linked? I am going to start asking people, "Have we
actually met before?"
What is the most important thing for all professionals, especially
executives that are at the top of enormous communication pyramids? Time
management and the prioritization of tasks. The Franklin Planner stuff. You
have no choice but to limit communications and information to those tasks
and individuals that are high priority. Like family on the weekends and
during evenings.
