Ian,

I work for a mid-sized corporation and completed the ERM practitioner program
last year and I am in the process of developing an electronic records program
for my company. The program is excellent for obtaining the basic knowledge
required, but in my opinion it is similar to studying a textbook, in that it
does not "prepare" you for creating a program. There is no "real world" or
case study example in the course, and I don't believe AIIM markets the course
as such.

I don't know how the specialist course is, but if you take the practitioner
course, take it for what it is: a course that will allow you to gain the
basic knowledge of what electronic records management is about, but you will
still have to just jump into building your program. I have found many
challenges that the course (and most likely any course) can't prepare you
for.
