Tamara,

I would contact Amelia at the State Archives or someone there. I'm sure this is not covered in our BOR Retention schedules unless you use this from our retention schedules:

Series K (33) Certification Records
Explanation: This series documents the preparation of students earning degrees and/or certification for licenses or certificates to enter a profession and forms the basis of the initial certification for various professions. Records may include: applications for admission to a program; registration for practicum hours and evidence of the completion of the practicum; transcripts; narrative evaluations on practicum; notice of completion of hours required for certification; recommendations and evaluations; and related correspondence.
Record Copy: Colleges, Schools
Retention: 5 years after initial certification application by student
Citation or Reference: O.C.G.A. 9-3-26

Hope this helps,
Pam

Hello Collective Wisdom,

We had a question arise about retention period for records pertaining to SCUBA courses here at Kennesaw State University. The secretary claims they need to be retained for 25 years (to support certification), but I am not finding any supporting information for this claim.

Anyone else out there have any information on this? Unfortunately, these are "old" records and no one teaches it here anymore. Any thoughts on how to approach this?

Thanks everyone!

Tamara
