Retention - how is the data organized so retention can be applied for purging? With tape backup, we rotate (reuse) the tapes, so we do not encounter issues with keeping copies of records that have been purged from the active files/databases according to retention requirements. This gives us consistent application of our policies (very important in legal issues). With WANs and SANs, a purge process must be developed for the archived/backed-up data/files or they will still be there loooonnnngggg after the retention has expired and the active file is purged - and will probably come back to haunt your organization at the worst possible time.
