Thanks Ginny - good tips, for sure.  I want to say, however, for those who
heed the pitfalls described in that article, social media can be a fabulous
extension to your networking efforts and be a career-enhancer.

The trick, just as with email, voicemail or even a physical letter, the
power of your words must be heeded; and now one must understand that
technology has the power and potential to distribute on an order of
magnitude never before experienced.

A few time-tested cliches to keep in mind:

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. (a/k/a
Keep your snarky comments to yourself!)

Patience is a virtue. (Before you click "Post" or "Update My Status" or
whatever, take a deep breath and re-read what you're about to say to the
world and make adjustments as appropriate)

Context is everything.  (There is a much higher liklihood of comments being
taken out of context now - be aware of that and the potential consequences)
