We did a three-year email archiving project with the Rockefeller Archive Center. The email accounts for the pilot included PST files. We used a tool called MessageSave with the PST files to convert them into MBOX files. MessageSave also converts to the MSG format. Our MBOX files went through a parser to output the entire email account in XML following a schema we co-developed with the North Carolina State Archives and its work with EMCAP. The XML is what we consider to be the preservation copy.
