I received the following email this morning - the names have been
removed to protect the clueless:

My name is (Legal Assistant). I work in the County Attorney's Office as
a legal assistant. I support the Parks and Open Space Department's
attorney, who is (Parks Attorney).

For the last four years I have taken the original recorded Purchase
Agreements regarding acquisitions, along with a transmittal memo, over
to Finance to store in your vault. (Finance accountant) asked me the
other day why we did that, and I subsequently asked (Parks Attorney)
why. It was decided that we did not need to do that and we will keep
them in our office.

So, that's the reason for this email to you. I am going through these
folders and taking out the Purchase Agreements, but there are many
folders, so far, that have many more papers besides the purchase
agreements. (Finance accountant) said to recycle them. There are two
huge file cabinets that I am taking all of these folders out of. I will
do so but I want to make sure this has your "blessing" because there are
so many documents that I have no idea what their value is.

Sincerely,

(Legal Assistant)

Now here's the kicker. This email was not sent to me, but to the head
of Finance, who, bless his heart, forwarded it to me. Does anyone else
find that the worst offenders regarding destroying files willy-nilly are
the same legal staff who should know better than anyone else?

Just venting...
