I have done this sort of thing as I have Departmental Retention
Schedules. I also have a General Retention Schedule which cover Records
Series that ALL department have.

Subject: Policy Retention

List,

I would like to define retention of my company's policies by creating a
few
different groups based upon type of policy. I believe that not all
policies
are similar in nature and perhaps some should carry longer and/or
shorter
retention than others. I am thinking of having all policies fit into
one of
these categories:  Administrative/Operational Policies; HR Policies;
Lending
Policies (I work for a bank); and Compliance/Regulatory Policies.

Has anyone taken this approach, and if so, how did you specifically
define
administrative from operational policies? I welcome any feedback from
the
list on this approach as well. Thank you in advance.
