Barbara,

I understand your question and would like to offer the following:  For 
many years I had only an Associates Degree and was unable to obtain a 
higher paying job because I didn't have a Bachelor's Degree.  I 
couldn't understand why a piece of paper would make such a big 
difference.  I finally bit the bullet  in 2005 and went back to school 
to get my Bachelor's Degree, albeit begrudgingly.  Since that time I 
have received my Bachelor's Degree (in Business Administration) and I 
can honestly say that what I learned in my coursework helped me to 
understand the Bachelor's Degree requirement.  Having a Bachelor's 
Degree (although I agree that not all are equally relevant) exposes one 
to topics such as finance, human resources, marketing, international 
issues, etc. which are invaluable when working in a management role.  
Having a lot of RIM experience does not necessarily expose one to these 
topics, and, therefore, I think that the Bachelor's Degree can provide 
one with a broader understanding of management issues which may be 
relevant to a higher level management position such as a Records 
Manager.  Additionally, the CRM Examination has questions on it related 
to management which I studied for from my college textbooks.  So I 
think the ICRM factors in the management knowledge gained from a 
Bachelor's degree as equivalent to experience which may take much 
longer to obtain on the job.  I don't know that this is the complete 
answer, but it could be part of the answer anyway.  Hope this helps.

standards in existence at the time the group was organized in the early
1970's.


That requirement makes perfect sense as long as the applicant's degree 
was
in some way connected to the job applied for.  But it still does not
explain how my PhD in basketweaving (just joking) and 5 years RIM work
experience makes me a better CRM candidate than my senior co-worker 
with a
High School Diploma and 15 years of varied RIM work experience.
