Yes, the company I work for has 'valuable papers' insurance with
different coverage for paper and electronic stuff. No I've never been
involved in a claim. I was interested in it as a way to (1) get coverage for
paper records stored at storage vendors since vendors only cover replacement
of the storage container, and (2) support my plea to (primarily) IT staff to
index the 'mystery data' they create on removable media. However, for data,
it doesn't seem to matter whether data can be identified or not - identified
data doesn't seem to (or wouldn't in the event of a claim) merit a higher
replacement value based on any kind of estimate of the cost to recreate it.
