We had our silver originals scanned on site using grey scale because of
film quality issues. There were still images that didn't scan that are
having to be manually rescanned as we find them. How big of a problem
that will be for you depends to the quality of your film (stick as close
to the original generation as possible), and the volume being converted
(and/or conversion speed, i.e. high volume, high speed conversions will
have more image quality issues).
You will need to set up an audit process to make sure all images are
scanned, or live with the fact that some will get lost in the
conversion.
These projects can be a challenge. Good luck

I would suggest you group the films based on image quality.
Hopefully most of the diazo copies are good enough for a 200dpi -
bi-tonal
scan.
If not reduplicate the masters and/or 300dpi - grey-scale would be the
next
step.
Sending out the silver masters could be risky but if you need the images
converted. Scan on site with a rental scanner or have the vendor come on
site?
