Banks, retailers, and other industries are using customer thumbprints to
identify persons associated with transactions. In many cases, a thumb
print might be captured on check or other document that is subsequently
imaged.
I am finding that some law enforcement agencies really prefer having the
original document with the thumbprint because it is clearer and can
reveal more information under minute inspection. Is anyone else
addressing this issue? If so, what is your process and retention period
for the original document with a thumbprint?
I am particularly interested in any financial institutions using some
sort of branch capture technology where documents are imaged at the
point of service.
