I am really late to this topic but just wanted to say I think it is so sad that a profession that has been around for as long as ours can't get recognized by the DOL. If you just consider the number of people in records management in state and federal government alone that number has to be huge. Very sad.

Thanks!

Subject: Document Management as a Recognized Occupation

I saw this on Twitter today (of all places). Apparently there is an
effort underway to recognize the role of Document Management Specialist
by the US Department of Labor. The full article can be found on the
AIIM website here: http://www.aiim.org/Article.aspx?ID=39324. In
looking at the description
http://online.onetcenter.org/link/summary/15-1099.14 it seems to me to
be VERY broad, everything from developing system features (programming)
to operating data capture technology (scanning) to administrating system
rights and implementing procedures.

The summary job description fits more in line with what a I believe a
Records Manager should be doing. I thought that I remembered ARMA
pursuing something similar to this effort not too long ago. I wonder
what happened there and if they are still pursuing it? The article lets
you know how to participate in the study effort if you so desire, but
the deadline for response is May 21, 2010.
