Gary:
I have made similar presentations to local Community College classes in the past. The one thing I realized early on was the students' surprise that records management could be considered a career - with possible ultimate promotion to the management level in many government and corporations. I stressed the importance of establishing validity of their RIM knowledge and experience as a value-added benefit to a prospective employer. One of the ways to do this, in my mind, is to earn the CRM credential. It sets validity in several ways - a CRM has to have a certain amount of supervisory or analyst experience in RIM, as well as education, in order to sit for the exams; the exams themselves cover a body of knowledge that is verifiable through the Outline and Bibliography; and, of course, passing the exam shows the CRM is capable of knowing and understanding the body of knowledge. In addition, maintaining the credential requires the CRM to stay abreast of the RIM industry.
