Hospital declares missing medical files not compromised - Weymouth,
Massachusetts - Weymouth News
Weymouth —

After an investigation by a firm that specializes in data loss, South Shore
Hospital officials have determined that high-tech thieves can’t acquire
information in nearly 800,000 missing patient records on backup computer
tapes.

“South Shore Hospital has concluded that there is little to no risk that
information on the files has been or could be acquired, accessed, or misused
based on the following key investigation findings,” wrote administrators in
a Sept. 9 summary statement.

Hospital officials previously planned to send notices to individuals whose
information may have been on the backup computer files, but decided in the
end to post notices in local newspapers about how people who are affected by
the data loss can have their information protected.
