Something else came into my mind while driving to work.
Medical experiments, in addition to medical researches,
Relations with Pharmaceutical companies,
Education, self education, self-assessment,
Training of Medical students,
May be it is not relevant to US, but it is possible all these regulated bodies - In Canada there are colleges of : Physicians, Nurses, ....
Associations and Conferences.
