In response to the question about someone who is interested in working in archives I would strongly suggest that she identify a number of places in which she might be interested in working and then try and arrange interviews with the people on the archival front lines. By interviews I do not mean job interviews. What I am talking about is an effort to collect information on the perceived advantages of specialized training, internships, certifications, etc. One would be surprised at how open people are to such inquiries (at least that has been my experience). It would also be nice to get a sense of what it is like to work in such a place. These could be done either in person, by phone, or by email.

Just my thoughts on this.
