I'm sorry that I posted a request to the group before posting my
introduction, but I hope you will over look that and allow me to begin my
participation on the right foot.

My name is Courtney Crocker, and I am the Records System Manager for the
City of Raleigh. I received an MA in Public History - Archives and Museums
from North Carolina State University and began my career in archives and
records management with Stiefel Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company which
is now a subsidiary of GSK, as a Records Archive Specialist. I was brought
on board there to establish both physical and electronic records management
programs for an international pharmaceutical company that had been in
business for 160 years without any records management programs. I created a
records management hub within my office by consolidating five US sites and 2
UK sites. I organized the digitization, indexing, and uploading of all
paper records consolidated into an enterprise content management system.

I left Stiefel Laboratories in 2010 to start a new records management
program with the City of Raleigh for the Planning and Economic Development
department as a member of the Development Services office. There is no
formal records management program for my department, nor for the city in
which I work. I am facing the challenge of influencing upper management to
establish city-wide and departmental records management policy, and have
launched an initiative to enact state legislative changes in regards to
electronic archiving of permanent public records.

On a personal note, I am a lifelong student who is finishing up a MEd in New
Literacies and Global Learning this year. Next I will be trying to pursue a
PhD, thought my research plan has not yet been decided as I have a
background in English, photojournalism, public history, and now education.]

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this listserv community!
