Todd,

In response to your posted question regarding employee need to retain 
records permanently.  I have don't give departments a permanent retention 
without giving them responsibility for it.  I tell them if the records 
truly need a permanent retention then they will need to preserve those 
records to last 500 years. I have even gone so far as to replace the word 
permanent with 500 years as the retention period.  Most people laugh and 
tell me they don't need them that long and then we are able to negotiate a 
more realistic period of time.
