From the ARMA Glossary (http://www.arma.org/standards/glossary/index.cfm?id_term=303):
migration
process of moving data from one information system or storage medium to another
Note: Migration is done to ensure continued access to the information as the system or medium is replaced, becomes obsolete, or degrades over time.
See also backfile conversion, conversion, and file conversion.

Subject: Electronic Records: Conversion vs Migration
Re: Maintenance of E Records Over Time
Can anyone explain the difference between the terms "migration" or conversion?
Can I use these terms interchangeably?
Is one term more correct than the other when speaking to the long term preservation of records.
