Hi Gary,

I did a presentation to the Educause Information Security Conference this past April - it was called: Records Management: Information Security's New Best Friend. I report to the head of Information Security and we have done several presentations about how RIM and IT Security fit together. In this last presentation I reviewed GARP - just the basics - and included how certain GARP principles fit the basic principles of Information Security - which is generally known as CIA - Confidentiality, Integrity & Availability - you can look these terms up in the SANS Institute's Glossary of Security Terms (www.sans.org). This glossary helped with the language problem where we use the same words, but they don't mean the same thing.

My favorite saying about IT Security and RIM is: If it does not exist you don't have to secure it!

I'd be happy to share my presentation to anyone who wants to see it (just email me off list) - it went over well at the conference and I got some great feedback from the IT folks who attended.

I guess the intent of my original question was to get ideas on how to
demonstrate to the person in a concise but complete verbal answer how
RIM and IT are natural partners in the [area, sphere, space] of
information security by listing the common areas wherein we both work.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Keep those answers coming.
