On yet a couple more related points, I do recall that at one point in the past, one of the leading records center software packages formatted the data in such a way as to make exporting it and then importing it into another very difficult. I don't know if that's still true, but I'd certainly want to check and find out before I committed. Second, the vendor software may or may not capture the metadata you want or need, creating difficulties and extra costs in retrieval. Again, I'd check before I committed.
