Hi Alex,

In my opinion, the primary value of the RM in DR/BC planning is to assist
the organization in identifying the content that is vital to its operations
during and immediately after a catastrophic event or system failure and by
helping to determine strategies and tactics for appropriate protection of
that content (such as dispersal, etc.) to ensure it is available when,
where, how and by whoever needs it.

The RM should be working closely with LOB, IT, Legal, Finance, HR, etc. to
help them identify what information is critical to the organization during a
disaster (such as employee and customer contact information), what
information is needed as the business emerges from the disaster (such as
contracts, banking information, etc.) and what information needs to be
protected but won't be necessarily needed to operate during and immediately
after a disaster.

As to your question of who should be involved in DR/BC planning, the answer
is Everyone. All major funcitons of an organization will have a stake in
the organization's ability to survive a disaster and resume business
operations. Some functions will play a more integral role than others in
planning, and certainly in execution, but everyone needs to be included.

Hope that helps!

Julie
