Honestly, and from personal experience, I don't think it will take as
long to go through the boxes as you are estimating. Particularly if you
already know the record series and the main thing you need to establish
is the date range of each box.

Yes to the policy and understanding of requirements and what is in the
box.  Another caveat is that 90% of what is in the box is stored
electronically in our corporate office in systems.  Client notes are
probably the bulk of what may not be 100% stored at corporate office.  

We are now trying to gather some best practices around alternatives to a
full inventory.
