For public agencies exploring social media, Pollan said content produced
for Facebook and other sites falls under the same open records laws as any
other public documents would. He urged those public-sector organizations
thinking of social media to plan that aspect of their outreach, and even
consider a third-party management tool or other means to keep up with the
information and its archival.
