After a long absence, I am (at least temporarily) back on the Listserv.  I spent 29 years in the land records office at Harrison County on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, both as an employee and as a title researcher for attorneys.  Our office inherited all the other offices' inactive records, so I was "doing" records management long before I knew what it was.  A friend introduced me to the Listserv, and I realized there were a lot of others in this profession. Between on-the-job training and the 5-course series from Chippewa Tech, I finally gained confidence that I knew what I was doing.

In 2007 I took over the Local Government Records Office at Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) in Jackson, helping and training others who work with county and municipal records.  My office is entirely funded by the fees local governments collect for filing documents, but the counties have the option whether or not to collect this fee.

We finally have enough counties participating that we can now hire a second person for this office.  We advertised this position a couple of months ago on archives listservs, and got applications from a lot of archivists.  We need someone with records management experience, too, so we're re-advertising.

Specifics:  Full time, time-limited 3-year position.  (If you do well, we may be able to keep you!)
Salary: $32,400, plus benefits, including state retirement.
Education: Masters in history, library science, or related OR Bachelors with 1 year of related experience.

The job announcement on the MDAH website currently has the old deadline.  The correct one is next Friday, May 17.  Here are a couple of links:  MDAH has the more specific description:

State Personnel Board; you have to apply through them:

We recently honored employees with 10 or more years' experience; ot of about 150 employees at MDAH, 74 received certificates.
