Unfortunately, two of my ancestors fought on both sides of the Civil War.
One was not welcome home afterwards and spent six months wandering around
with a band of Sioux writing letters home to his wife. He did eventually
come home and after he died, his wife heard knocking from his desk. Opening
the desk she discovered he qualified for a Union pension.
